My distressed and antiqued coffee and side tables makeover

Looking around my living room and it’s brown, brown, beige and beige.  I need some color in my life.  How haven’t I noticed this before?

My wore out coffee table and side tables, all dinged up, scuffed and brown, the ideas started flowing!

I am really loving the distressed, antiqued look.  I just knew I could re create that look with these tables.

I decided to use a base undercoat on the entire table.  The top would stay white so I did 3 coats, but the bottom would have another color so I only did one coat.

I choose a turquoise-y blue-ish green color.

As I went to painting, this color wasn’t right, it was too light and too green.  I took it back and got 2 shades a darker color.

This color is much more what I had in mind.  Perfect.  I painted with 1-2 more coats as needed.

I let it dry really well 1 day or so, and then the fun began.  Using sandpaper,  I got to work distressing.

I love how both the white and wood colors would show through.

Then using my most favorite glaze in Muscavado.

I simply painted it on, and then wiped it off with a rag, leaving more in the grooves and distressed spots.

I really love how the glaze gave the top an aged look.  I sprayed them with a clear polyurethane spray paint.  A couple of coats each, especially on the top.  I know they are going to get a lot of wear and tear in my house.  I let them dry and cure for at least 7-8 days, before moving them into my house.

So I went on and completed my coffee table and other side table as well.

See those gold mirrors on the table, I can’t wait to figure out what and where I am going to hang them.  My Granny gave them to me, and they are super cute, just have to find the perfect spot for them.

I just love the splash of color it gives my room!

Don’t you just love when a project turns out just like you imagined in your head?

My two couch warmers say hello.
